This is a great example (as discussed in our March meeting) of how companies are utilizing Web 2.0/new media tools inside their organization. Whether to link experts, publish and easily find critical information, or, in this case, to encourage employees to interact with each other and headquarters.
More and more organizations recognize that employees use these kind of tools in their personal lives, so they are very comfortable with them.
Why will this be effective? Blogs, for now, make sharing information fun because people enjoy talking about who they are, what they do and what they know. Plus, McDonald's has almost 15,000 locations across the US and Canada. The blog will provide an opportunity for thousands of employees to have an impact, to be seen and heard, when, in such a large company, they might otherwise go (and feel) unnoticed.
What a great way to engage employees and develop a channel that can quickly get information out to the field.
